Export DSTV in Raptor

Published 11/05/2020

Learn how to export DSTV files in Raptor.

Greetings. I'm Duane Bates, the pre-installation and training department manager at Peddinghaus. The topic of this video is how to export DSTV files in Raptor.

In the pending part window with parts showing as you see them here, click on the header, in this case Tekla. Go to export parts and DSTV. You can also export a single part by right clicking and choosing export part DSTV. In this case we are going to use the Tekla header and go to export all parts then DSTV.

The DSTV export window opens in the general tab. We'll come back here momentarily once we go through the explanation of the other three tabs.

The shape filters tab has additional profile tabs: angles, beams, channels, plates, tubes and T shapes. All of these tabs are identical with the exception of a couple additions. Once you learn one tab you'll know the others.

You can choose to export a particular profile or not by unchecking the box. If you have many files in the list and you don't want to export any angles, you can just uncheck it and that case they will not be exported. You can choose what features to export in the files: copes, scribes, holes, pop marks. You can choose to export miters or not. You can choose which direction you want your copes to go, whether you want the top flange to be clockwise, the web, the bottom flange, or the underside. You can force them to be clockwise if you would like them to be.

Angles have the ability to create a bottom flange. In a normal DSTV file the two surfaces of an angle are a web and bottom flange. Within Raptor, we have a web and top flange. You need to create that bottom flange here. Choose which axis you want to rotate that flange around, Z or X. You can make those choices as needed.

There's no difference for beams, channels, plates and T shapes. Tubes have the choice to export the inner radius, the inside radius of the tube. If you need to include that radius you can by checking that box.

On the folders tab, we are telling it exactly where we want to export the files. We can browse that location and choose it. Click "okay". That will give us the location where we are exporting. You can embed a part within the project folder. That point is going to look and see what project the Raptor files are in. It will create the project folder and put those parts inside.

You can also create individual assembly and shape folders. If you create individual shape folders you also need to navigate and find different directories for each of the different shapes.

On the advance tab, you have the choice to tell it how many decimal places you want, if you want to add any comments, and what file extension you need (.NC or .NC1). Once you've made those choices return to the general tab. You can see it created all the files need.
