AG Rigging & Steel Sets the Stage for Generational Success

Discover how father-son duo, Alan and Ben George, are utilizing new Peddinghaus robotic technology to ensure a sustainable future for AG Rigging & Steel for generations to come. By running 90% of all material through the PeddiBot-1100, production and profits have increased by 20% with the same amount of employees.

AG is everything to me. It's been my whole life, basically.

There's a lot of pride in it for me. My favorite memory is when the boys both come to me and said that they wanted to take it over, because at that stage, it was pretty much done. I've been in the business 28 years now.

I think they could see what the business has done for the family over the years. And if they could keep it going, it's a good legacy for them.

It's becoming a generational family company now, which is pretty special to us. AG Rigging offers structural steel service to drafting, erection, steel fabrication, blast, and paint.

We specialize in big industrial buildings, shopping centers, and schools. The biggest problem that we have, we had our supplier doing all the cutting and drilling.

We would be waiting for material a lot. So taking out that part of the equation has really helped us streamline our service that we can offer. Coming into the new age of technology, it's propelling us into a new era.

We met Peddinghaus at last year's show in Melbourne and got the PeddiBot.

I like the fact that it was a one straight-through process. So a four-sided operation. You had to put a piece of steel up once. And by the time it's out the other side, it's finished.

Pretty much from the get go, it was user-friendly and everyone picked it up pretty quick.

We went from the Avenger doing 8 to 10 tons a day, whereas the PeddiBot can do 30. It's just sped the whole process up.

The more efficient we can get stuff on site quicker, lead times faster.

We run 90% to 95% of our steel through the PeddiBot. We do the cutting and the drilling and marking weld preps. So the time it saves is in the actual workshop for the boys actually tacking up material.

The advantages of productivity is we're putting out 20% more product with the same amount of people. It's just made the place more profitable.

Our goal with the automation is not to replace jobs, it's just to double our output.

Our next year is looking really good. Toowoomba's on a real growth spurt at the moment. We'll look at buying a PeddiAssembler next to get our production right, and I think automation is the only way we're going to do that.
